I began my career in 1986 as a stylist in a Sebastian Artistic Salon. Artistic Salons were a source for cutting edge training for stylists and were known for their dedication to education and the professional salon industry.
I quickly grew with Sebastian International where four times a year I would be trained by founder John Sebastian and Sebastian Creative Director Geri Cusenza on the latest techniques in haircutting, haircolor, styling and make up.
Sebastian International, known for their world class training in haircutting and hair products throughout the professional beauty industry, was a good match for me and I would make it my professional home for the next 15 years.
I started out as an educator for salons and grew into a platform artist for Trade-Shows and On-The-Road-Shows. I helped to create and launch several successful product lines like Cellophanes (the haircolor that changed and revolutionized the haircolor industry forever), The Shaper Line, Molding Mud, Twisted Taffy and Trucco professional makeup. I travelled all over the U.S. to launch new collections and products. I was a Regional Manager and also Director of Education.
My training and experience taught me that styling and coloring hair is frequently made overly complicated. It takes practiced skill, but “less” is frequently “more” in providing a cut and color that the client can reproduce by themselves on a daily basis. I achieve this for my guests by a precise cut and then by adding texture and customizing where required after drying and styling.
I always longed to one day return “behind the chair”. With 15 years experience at Sebastian International under my belt I decided to put all of that training and knowledge to work by opening my own salon.
In 2000 I purchased my salon in Midtown which quickly became a Sebastian Elite Salon, a Sebastian education center for local stylists. After opening the salon I continued to work with Sebastian and Wella by continuing to teach in salon haircutting classes. This partnership with Sebastian/Wella helped me stay on the cutting edge and keep my skills current.
In 2009 I opened Aura Salon. With this Salon I am able to create the environment that enables me to communicate with my guests unobstructed by the locker room feel of many salons.
I have always had a broad spectrum of guests from adolescents to senior citizens. Each one has his or her own style. They all know and trust that I will do my best to meet their expectations and provide them with the look and color that they were looking for.
At Aura Salon I am able to use my education and experience in an environment where the focus of my attention and the purpose of the salon is on a single guest.
